Some History ... After the German Blitzkrieg of Poland and France, it was decided that Canada should create two highly mobile, Armoured Divisions, the 4th and 5th. Thoughts were already turning to re-establishing the initiative and taking the offensive against Germany. Early in the spring of 1941 the Canadian 5th Armoured Division came into being, and on March 4 the Perths were notified they would be part of it. This assignment changed the regimental tasking from a Corps Machine Gun Battalion to that of Motorized Infantry, The Perth Regiment (Motor).
