Above you will see the scans for this large CEF 43rd Battalion Cap Badge. This large heavy badge is complete with both original lugs, and measures over 5 cm in diameter. Real nice age patina on this age darkened brass badge . A rare find for any collector of Canadian CEF badges.
History: On 18 December 1914, the Cameron Highlanders of Canada received authority to raise a Volunteer Overseas Battalion. Mobilization commenced under command of Lieutenant-Colonel Robert M. Thomson. The Battalion began training at Minto Armoury in Winnipeg and was soon re-designated the 43rd Cameron Highlanders of Canada C.E.F.Battalion, (Canadian Expeditionary Force). On 29 May 1915 the Battalion en-trained for Montreal and deployment overseas. Embarking with a complement of 39 officers and 1,020 other ranks, the 43rd arrived in England on 8 June 1915. One of the first to serve. On 29 January, after numerous field encounters with the enemy, the 43rd was sent to Liphook Bramshott Camp to contiue to serve as part of the 3rd Canadian Division.
