You are viewing a Bonnet Badge for the Cameron Highlanders of Canada. This badge is a clean white metal badge, made with the "stamping" method, complete with both its original lug type attachment devises. Has an unreadable hall mark in the center of the "X" on the obverse. Still in excellent condition. A beauty for any collector of Canadian CEF badges.


On 1 February 1910 the 79th Cameron Highlanders of Canada came into existence. This, Western Canada's first highland regiment, was the result of persistent efforts by Winnipeg's Scottish community. The Regiment's first honorary Colonel was Lord Strathcona (Sir Donald A. Smith) GCMG, GCVO. His ties to the military and Scottish community of Winnipeg were extensive. After massive investment (over $25,000 in 1910!!!) and three years of subsequent military training, by the start of WWI, they were, as their motto declares, "Ullamh,"- Ready!.
