Some history: The 12th Manitoba Dragoons was originally formed in 1893. Over the course of its career, the regiment was disbanded and re-organized several times. In 1901 it was re-designated as D Squadron, Canadian Mounted Rifles, but in 1903 the12th Manitoba Dragoons was formed. In 1935 it was absorbed into a Border Horse Regiment, but by 1942 it had been again reorganized and became the 18th (Manitoba) Armored Car Regiment and was sent to do duties on the home front to free up more men to go overseas. At the end of the WW2 it became the 12th Reserve Manitoba Dragoons. It exists to this present day as a cadet unit in Virden Manitoba.
