The scans above show the details of this 2nd China war Medal. It includes two clasps; one for the "Taku Forts 1858", and the other for" Canton 1857". Also includes the remnants of its original ribbon. The medal itself is made of silver with its finer details still nearly perfect. It shows the head of a young Victoria mounted on a swivel bezel which is still quite functional. The obverse is a highly detailed design showing cannon, shields, palm trees and spears, along with the name "China" on the bottom.

This medal was awarded to veterans of the second China War and culminated with taking of Canton, after the British Fleet destroyed the Chinese navy at the battle of Fatchan Creek. Examples exit with and without names. Most of the navel awards were un-named. Also there are medals from the 1842 campaigns which bear the 1857 and 58 clasps.
