Some WWI History ...
This battalion mustered volunteers from British Columbia, Manitoba, and Ontario through its headquarters at the Val Cartier Camp, near the end of the summer of 1914. They sailed for England on October 3rd 1914."First to Fight" Upon arriving in England this battalion was renamed the 17th Reserve battalion, and served as a training unit at the Tidworth Barracks, as part of the Canadian training depot... It is noteworthy that the units commanding officer was Sir Arthur Currie, who rose to become the first leader of a fully Canadian Army in WWI
