Above are the scans for this WWII era General Service lapel pin. Made of silver with a King's crown above the traditional three maple leaves. It has an unreadable hallmark on the obverse near the straight pin attachment, which is in good working order. Also, note the inscription on the below the service number (#379890).
The inscription says "Penalty for misuse, 500 dollars or six months imprisonment".
This was done to protect real returning veterans from the fraud that could be caused by some coward, who never served, wearing this badge so as not to suffer abuse from the local gentry as he walked down the street. In those days, if you didn't serve, you were considered as a "coward" unless you were in the factories etc...
The "conscientious objector" BS was a post war product of liberal bleeding hearts. During the war "conscientious objectors" were put in work camps and even in prison.
