You are viewing a vintage CEF WWI era 28th Battalion Cap Badge. There are two known types of 28th batallion badges; this one is of the "overseas" variety. The badge is made of browning copper, and quite free of the greenish oxidation, so common to aged copper. Both lug type attachments are original and in good order...

This battalion, called the "28th Northwest" has an interesting history. It was raised in 1915 by volunteers from western Ontario and Saskatchewan, with HQ in Winnipeg. Formed during the spring of 1915, the 28th quickly completed basic training and sailed for England on May 29th, 1915, with a strength of 1114 members, (one of the larger in the CEF) under command of Lt.Col. J.F.L. Embury. Upon arrival in England, the batallion was quickly moved up to the front and joined the 6th Infantry Brigade of the 2nd Canadian Division. They served valiantly in France and Belgium throughout the war ... many of their members are now forever young...The 28th Battalion was awarded the following battle honours: MOUNT SORREL, SOMME, 1916, 18, Flers-Courcelette, Thiepval, Ancre Heights, ARRAS, 1917, '18, Vimy, 1917, Scarpe, 1917, '18, HILL 70, Ypres 1917, Passchendaele, AMIENS, HINDENBURG LINE, Drocourt-Quéant, Canal du Nord, Cambrai, 1918, PURSUIT TO MONS, and FRANCE & FLANDERS, 1915-18 and is perpetuated to the present by the Royal Regina Rifles Regiment.
