You are viewing a vintage CEF WWI era 48th Battalion Cap Badge. There are two known types of 48th batallion badges; this one is of the first variety. The badge is made of browning copper, and shows clearly the distinctive greenish oxidized patina, common to aged copper. Both lug type attachments are original and in good order. ..
This battalion has an interesting history. It was raised from volunteers from Vancouver Island, with HQ in Victoria. Formed during the late summer of 1914, the 48th sailed for England exactly a
year later, on July 1st, 1915, with a strength of 1058 members, under command of Lt.Col. W.J.H. Holmes. Upon Arrival in England, the batallion was redesignated the 3rd Pioneer bataliion (48th
Canadians) and served in France and Belgium. In May of 1917 its remaining members were added to other canadian batallions fighting in the field. Many members of the 48th are now forever
