Above are the scans for this example of a CEF 1st Overseas Railway Construction Battalion cap badge. This badge is made of browning copper and is inexcellent condition for its age. Both original lugs present and in good order.


This battalion existed from 1915 until the end of WWI (1918). The Canadian Overseas Railway Construction Corps was organised in the spring of 1915 as a result of a request by the British government for Canada to supply a railway construction unit for service in France. It was authorized by PC 482 of 5 March 1915. The corps was commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel C.W.P. Ramsay, a construction engineer on the Canadian Pacific Railway.
