You are viewing a rare WW1 era CEF cap badge. The 8th Mounted Rifle Battalion was organized in Ottawa,Ontario, in 1915. They provided reinforcements during WW1. This specimen is made of copper. It has very fine "patina" aging, and yet is still very clean. The unusual feature about this badge is that it has a tang fastener, instead of the more common lugs and pin. On the tang is the maker mark "Tiptaft and Sons, Birmingham". Guaranteed 100% genuine.
