After the German Blitzkrieg of Poland and France, it was decided that Canada should create two highly mobile, Armoured Divisions, the 4th and 5th. Thoughts were already turning to re-establishing the initiative and taking the offensive against Germany. Early in the spring of 1941 the Canadian 5th Armoured Division came into being, and on March 4 the Perths were notified they would be part of it. This assignment changed the regimental tasking from a Corps Machine Gun Battalion to that of Motorized Infantry, The Perth Regiment (Motor). This beautiful example is complete with both lugs.
