Above are the scans for a vintage WW1 176th Battalion Cap Badge, for the Niagara Rangers. Made of browning copper, using what appears to be a sand casting method' the badge has both orignal lug type fasteners intact and in good order. This badge has no visible maker mark. The battalion, a unit in the Canadian Expiditionary Force during the First World War, was raised from the Lincoln & Welland counties in the Niagara region. The 176th CEF batallion, with a final compliment of 464 members, began recruiting during the summer of 1916 in St Catherines and surrounding district. After sailing to England in April of 1917, the battalion was ordered to join the 12th Reserve Battalion...
