Above you may view the scans for a bi-metal vintage example of the 2nd CEF battalion of the WWI era. This distinctive badge has both its lugs complete and original. A white metal "crown over 2" design, which is in fact the design for the collar devise, applied over a brass maple leaf...

The volunteers who populated this battalion were from the Eastern Ontario farmlands of the time. On August 6th 1914, (the very beginning of the war) the call went out ... and they came from farms and homes and towns ... they came. They assembled outside of Montreal, at the Valcartier camp. By the end of September, this army of citizens had been uniformed, armed, and appeared ready. With high spirits they sailed for England, with the expectation that this war would end quickly, and they would be home for Christmas. On Oct 3rd 1914, 1143 members of the 2nd Canadian CEF battalion embarked under command of Lt. Col. D. Watson.
Upon their arrival in England they were moved quickly up to the front line in France , and served with the 1st Infantry Brigade of the 1st canadian Division. Most of these original lads will be forever young...
