Very interesting design on this badge. The 256th Battalion, CEF was a unit in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.the 256th was raised in Toronto.The battalion began recruiting in late 1916 in that city. After arriving in England this battalion was renamed the 10th Railway Troops.
